World Health Day observed at GMC Baramulla

On 7th April 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) marked its 75th anniversary with a call for renewed efforts towards achieving health equity worldwide. The theme for this year's World Health Day was "HEALTH for ALL", emphasizing the need for universal access to quality healthcare. In line with this global event, the Department of Community Medicine at GMC Baramulla Under the Leadership of Dr (Prof) Ruby Reshi, organized a day-long programme to observe World Health Day. The event commenced with an opening address by Dr Zahid Ali Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, who introduced the theme and purpose of the occasion. The Head of the Department of Community Medicine, Dr Abdul Majeed Ganai, delivered an awareness generation talk on the significance of the day and the need for promoting health equity. Dr Nazir Ahmad Khan, Professor & Head Department of ENT and Registrar academies, was the chief guest for the event, and he shared his ideas on the subject with the students. Medical Superintendent GMC Baramulla, Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, spoke about the importance of celebrating World Health Day, emphasizing the need for health equity as a fundamental right for all. The programme also included a quiz competition among the MBBS students from different batches, moderated by Dr Zahid Ali Khan, and assisted by Dr Muzammil Nazir, Dr Syed Najmul Ain, Dr Saima Nazir, Dr Ishtiyaq, Dr Zubair, Miss Nadiya, Mr Waseem, and Mr Satish. Additionally, a drawing competition was conducted, with judges from different departments, including Dr Shakeelur Rehman (Associate Professor Department of Pharmacology), Dr Shumail Bashir (Associate Professor Department of Chest Medicine), and Dr Berjina Farooq (Assistant Professor Department of Anatomy). After the competitions, the winners were felicitated, and the event ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Uruj (Associate Professor Department of Community Medicine). The event was attended by faculty members, paramedical staff, MBBS students from GMC Baramulla, and staff of District Legal Services Authority Baramulla, who were also collaborators for the event. Overall, the event was a successful tribute to World Health Day, highlighting the importance of health equity and encouraging renewed efforts towards achieving it.
