The 3-day workshop on Basic Course in Medical Education organized by the Medical Education Unit (MEU) GMC Baramulla concluded today. A total of 30 faculty members and Senior Residents from GMC Doda and GMC Baramulla participated in the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr (Prof) Ruby Reshi, Principal, GMC Baramulla, and coordinated by Dr Vinay Sharma, Professor in the Department of Anatomy at Muzaffarnagar Medical College. He was designated as the BCME Coordinator by the NMC. The workshop featured several interactive sessions focused on the new CBME, innovative teaching and learning methods, and new assessment techniques in medical education. The resource faculty comprised MEU members from GMC Baramulla who have received training from the Regional Centre HIMS Dehradun. Commenting on the workshop, Dr Tajamul Hussain, MEU Coordinator at GMC Baramulla, mentioned that the BCME workshop is compulsory for all faculty members according to the new NMC guidelines and serves as a prerequisite for faculty promotions. Previously, faculty members had to travel outside the state to attend these workshops, but now, with all MEU members from GMC Baramulla trained at the Regional Centre, the NMC has authorized in-house BCME workshops for other faculty members. He also expressed gratitude to the Principal and the college administration for their support in organizing this workshop. It is important to note that 3 faculty members from GMC Baramulla have completed the Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME) at CMC Ludhiana, and GMC Baramulla is the first among the new medical colleges in J&K to hold an in-house BCME workshop.
