GMC Baramulla inaugurates the Advanced Medical Records Section and Virus Research Lab GMC Baramulla and its associated hospital (AH) are pleased to announce the opening of a modern Medical Records Section (MRD) and a Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL). The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr Minga Sherpa, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, accompanied by Dr (Prof) Ruby Reshi, Principal GMC Baramulla, Dr Parvaiz Masoodi Medical Superintendent AH, GMC Baramulla, and HODs from clinical and non-clinical Departments well as other faculty and staff members. The event included a walkthrough of the MRD section and the VRDL laboratory, demonstrations of equipment, and a briefing by the Principal on the importance of these facilities. The section includes ten counters that will offer online OPD ticketing, offline service points, payment counters, blood collection areas, and a scan-and-share service for patients and their attendants. The facilities will serve as a centralized repository for patient records, ensuring easy access and confidentiality. This will improve clinical workflows, and its placement just outside the associated hospital will alleviate congestion in the hospital corridors. Conversely, the VRDL is outfitted with advanced technology for diagnosing and researching viral diseases. It currently provides complimentary ELISA-based diagnostic services for a range of viruses, including Hepatitis A, E, B, C, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes simplexus, and Varicella-zoster virus. This laboratory will be vital in enhancing the institution's capabilities for diagnosing viral infections, monitoring diseases, responding to outbreaks, and conducting research activities, which encompass viral hepatitis, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Influenza, Cytomegalovirus, and other emerging or re-emerging viruses.
